Just got a recall notice in the mail today. Say that the Passanger seat on your V-Star may come un-bolted and fall off. Causing serious injury or even death to your passanger. Well I guess we better get that fixed. Don't want the precious cargo all over the road now do we. If ya haven't got yours yet. Check with your local dealer to see if your bike is on the list....
Thanks for the heads up. Did they name the years affected?
OK, here it is. ALL XVS11A (V Star 1100 Classic), XVS11AT (V Star 1100 Silverado), XVS11 (V Star 1100 Custom), XVS65a (V Star Classic), XVS65AT (V Star Silverado) XVS65 (V Star Custom), and the XV250 (Virago250), hope this helps.
OK, Just took my bike to the local dealer to see about having the Recall scheduled for repair. Believe it or not. They took it right in and took care of it. Kudos to the Yamaha dealer in Watertown SD.

You know, this already happened to me! Thank goodness there was nobody on the pax seat, only my bag.

That's a serious problem then!

This happened to me too. Fortunately I (we) found it on in the morning of the second day of the ride. As a get me home thing, the bolt from the dressing at the top of the front forks is the same length and will do at a pinch. All this was before the re-call so I put a stainless bolt in there with a spring washer.

Blowed if I can find the box labled Mommy's toys.....
How did the dealer fix the rear seat bolt problem?
I removed the pax seat today to install my saddlebags, and noted that that single bolt holding the seat didn't look too safe. My bike is new (today!) so I don't know if it's had the "fix", but I plan to dab on a little LockTite when I get a chance.

Thank you so much for this information. I just bought my VStar 1100 last week and had a passenger riding yesterday. Boy, you may have really saved me with this information.
I called the shop I bought it from and sure enough... it is on the list. They never even told me about the recall or anything... I did not find out till I just happened into this forumn when I googled for instructions for changing my oil.
Thanks again,
mark

These safety recalls are very important. Perhaps we should create a sticky thread for safety recalls smeg. Or you could add motorcycle safety recalls to your automatic daily search process and have the thread created automatically.
Beyond that, locktite is a staple in my garage. I don't put a single bolt back on without locktite, but that is because my Harleys vibrate so much that parts loosen and fall off if I don't use it. LOCKTITE RULES.
Well, see. There can be usefull info in forums. Any luck with the oil changing. Isn't that just a stupid desing or what?

I got the oil changed... Jezzz... They make a kit to move the oil filter... it costs $277.
I just bought a set of cobra slip-ons off ebay for $100... But now I noticed that they are for the 1100 VStar Classic... and I have the custom.. do you think the mounts are the same?
