The first gear in a stock five speed is a bit in the basement and winds out fast. I had an andrews first gear replacement gear installed and the rest of the installed gears back cut to improve shifting.

Coming out of the hole is great! Shifting is very forgiving. It makes for a great upgrade if performance outta the hole is what you need with positive shifting.

Just wondering if you changed the front or rear sprocket from stock before you done this? Also, was the bike geared low or high from the factory?

And can you back cut the gears in a sportster??

I did run much lower gearer sprokets and a chair for a while. I had the rev limit set at 7200 and it got outta the hole wicked. But it was too much and I went back to the stock belt.

I would venture a guess that any trans gear can be back cut to mesh better.
