I'm new, and I have a question:
I don't yet own a motorcycle, but I plan on getting one within the next 2 years. I want to get a Suzuki GSX-R600 or a Honda CBR600RR as my first bike. Are either of those too "big" or too powerful for a beginner? Later, after I have gotten the hang of that size of bike and feel that I can move on to a bigger bike, I would like to get a Suzuki GSX-R750, then a GSX-R1000, and then to the bike of my dreams, the GSX-R1300RR Hayabusa. How does my plan sound??? Any suggestions??

Too big, not really, now consider how big of a person are you? Could they be too small.
No need rushing into a powerhouse bike the first time out, the bikes you chose as starters may just well be the perfect bike for you.

Well, I'm 16, I am 5'10" and weigh about 170lbs. I'm not fat, but I'm not buff.

Being that you are 16 a rider safety course should be in your future

Just wait to see what it'll do for your insurance too ;)

I kinda figured that, but I gotta get a bike first.
Insurance will kill you. And I agree with Jrbooe. Take a rider safety course. Not only will ya learn how to handle the machine. But ya also will save a buck or two on the insurance end of it.

Insurance will be about 254 a month like mine....imn 17 and gettin a bike in about a month or two...im gettin the yamaha YZF600R though. When you do look for insurance dont be suprised if companies tell you your uninsurable because I heard that from 3 different companies before progressive told me 254 a month. The funny thing is, is that I have a perfect driving record, good student discount, and am taking the safety course. But rock on man those are some cool bikes!

You can call around to different insurance companies to get a ballpark quote on rates. Also dont forget if you have a loan on the bike you need full coverage.
As far as a bike being too big, doubtful. Too powerful should be a major concern. It is good that you want to start out on a 600, but be sure be feel 100% confident in your abilities before upgrading. The safety course is a good idea and actually might be required by law if you are under the age of 18. It is in Ohio, so check that out
