Hi, I own a Katana 600 1988 and I have some lack of power when I accelerate fastly. A friend told me that maybe one cylinder wasn't working good and that a way to verify it was to check the temperature of the exhaust pipes just after I start the bike: my #1 cylinder look colder.
Could it be a coil problem??? (how can I verify the functionality of coils)
What could it be? Any checks suggested?
Thanks!

For coils just look for spark, however, it could be failing hot and may check ok cold. Make sure you have good wires and plugs.
If you have been wrenching on the bike and moved stuff, look for a loose or pinched wire.
It's probably the simple things though.

Try a compression check for loss of power. If one cylinder pressure is lower than the rest (i.e. more than 10%) you have a scuffed cylinder or ring sticking issues.
good luck

Trouble shooting is the systematic elimination of variables.
I'd start with the simple stuff.

I had this exact problem last year. It was only a fowled plug. You could tell by the exhaust just as your friend stated. Check all your plugs first. If that isn't the problems then I would questions your jets. If you plan on keeping this bike I suggest getting a Haynes Manual, You will need it!
