yamaha xs 400 maxim won't turn over

I have a 83 xs 400 maxim that just won't turn over. It runs fine once i push start but when you hit the start switch the starter switch just clicks. So i chargerd the battery and still no go. Got the starter checked and changed the starter solinoid everything checks out fine but still no go ... Please any thoughts ..
