Anyone ridden a Dyna T-sport? I have been thinking of converting my shovel to a serious highway machine, but a friend has offered me a 2001 T-sport for a VERY good price (4K below kelly blue book). I want something for the long haul, I rode the shovel long distance for years and it is not the most comfortable bike in the world (not to mention it's nearing 30 yrs old and needs just about everything rebuilt/replaced). I just don't want to spend 3K or more making the shovel right again and find it's still not comfortable for me and/or have reliability issues. Not to mention I am not a fan of FL shovels which is what I think it will wind up (or maybe....an FXR shovel). Any input? Always glad to hear opinions. ......I know, I sound indecisive, but I'm working class and another payment is a big issue for me.
This is another owners opinion I found:
LAST YEAR I TRADED MY HONDA MAGNA IN ON A NEW 2001 FXDXT T-SPORT, ALL THE DYNAīS CAME WITH THE TWIN CAM 88 MOTOR, WHICH I HAD HEARD WAS THE CATīS MEOW...WELL,IīM AS PATRIOTIC AS ANYONE, MORE SO, THAN SOME. BUT I HATED THIS AMERICAN TRADITION. THE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED "88" MOTOR STARTED CLATTERING AT ABOUT 900 MILES. I TOOK THE BIKE IN FOR THE 1000 MILE SERVICE, I DISCUSSED THIS CLATTERING WITH THE SERVICE TECH AND HE TOLD ME THAT WAS STANDARD "88" PUSHROD NOISE (THE CRAPPIE FACTORY LIFTERS DONīT PUMP UP UNTILL HIGHER RPM"S OFF IDLE), IT WAS EMBARRASSING TO SIT AT A RED LIGHT AND HAVE MY $16,000 INVESTMENT SOUND LIKE A 40 YEAR OLD CASE TRACTOR. THE BIKE RODE STIFF EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE SUSPENSION SET ON SOFT.THE FRONT BRAKE ROTOR STARTED SURGING AT ABOUT 1500 MILES EVEN THOUGH I HADNīT PANIC STOPPED OR OVERHEATED THE ROTOR.OR SPRAYED THE ROTOR WHEN HOT. THE FAIRING/WINDSCREEN COMBO MIGHT AS WELL NOT BE ON THE BIKE AS IT IS NO PROTECTION FROM WIND BLAST. THE SEAT IS HARD AND UNCOMFORTABLE ON A LONG HAUL.THE IGNITION SWITCH IS POORLY PLACED AND IS A HASSLE THAT NOT NEED BE. MY BIKE HAS GUTTED VANCE/HINES PIPES..I LOVED THE SOUND AND THE TORQUE, BUT THATīS ABOUT ALL. FOR ALL IT IS WORTH, I FEEL THAT ALL I GOT FOR MY MONEY WAS A NAME. I SOLD THIS MOTORCYCLE LAST MONTH AND I DID RECEIVE MOST OF MY MONEY BACK THANKS TO THE HARLEY HIPE. THE BUYER DIDNīT ASK MANY QUESTIONS AND I DIDNīT VOLUNTEER ANY DRAWBACKS. IīM HAPPY ITīS HISTORY. I HAVE A NEW(SORRY TO SAY), "RICE BURNER" VULCAN 1500 CLASSIC FI... IF HARLEY WOULD MAKE A BIKE OF THIS MAINTAINANCE FREE QUALITY AND COMFORT... IīD BUY ONE AND KEEP IT.

My buddy was so kind as to let me ride the Dyna T-sport to WI this weekend, so I put 850 miles on it.
I am sooo glad I didn't buy one of these without having the opportunity to ride it.
For the record: It ran and handled great...I have never ridden a HD that could turn so tight and quickly. The saddle bags are well made and hold a HUGE amount of stuff. Outside of that, I think I am just flat out too big for the bike. I felt cramped up no matter what the position and the seat absolutely sucked. He said that this seat was the most comfortable of 4 that he has for it....so I would really be a mess with the others on it. As it was, I made about 80 miles before the first stop and it was downhill after that. Aside from the lack of rear suspension, my ridgid seems much more comfortable.
So, in the end, I am glad to have someone that let me take this thing out for an extended trip, I love the power that a 95 in. 2cam makes, but I need a bigger package. So maybe the shovel will get that retrofit after all.
