Hey I am new to bikes but have had my eye on the GSXR-600 and was wondering what to look for in a good bike. I also was wondering what I am looking at to spend on say a 1995-2000 model. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I know next to nothing about bikes.

Just my opinion seeing this will be your first bike save some money buy the GS500 or a kawasaki EX500 when you have mastered that. Then and only then move up. Remember it's not the ride it's the rider. For example I ride several different bikes and I 've seen riders crash out behind me while I was riding a EX500 and my riding buddy was on a nighthawk 250 . the riders that went down were on a ZXR600 and a r6 much better bikes than we were on.

I would also advocate a 500cc or less bike for a first street bike, especially if you are completely new to bikes. I also strongly recommend taking the MSF ridercourse, you'll learn a lot.

If you want more info on the GS500, visit gstwin.com (http://www.gstwin.com)

I Agree with whats been said above. Simple fact is while your learning you will probably struggle with throttle control for a while on the 250/500 learner bikes, let alone on a race-bred 600. The 600 is much more brutal and less forgiving. Errors in throttle control on the 600 (Which you will make, we all make mistakes when we are learning.. thats how we learn) like winding the gas on a little to quickly = big shift in wieight from nose to end = typical learner reaction of chop the throttle - which is going to have you sliding down the road quicker than you can say "Suzuki parts cost shitloads".

For your first bike go for something a little more forgiving & remember most of us dropped our first bike a few times while learning, you'll be much less upset about it if you do it on a cheaper, not so pretty, not so expensive to repair machine.
