Road Etiquette

I was talking to some friends the other day and they shared a couple of stories with me. One friend was riding home from work and seen bike on the side of the road with the driver & passenger looking at the bike. He noticed they had a flat so he stopped and offered the use of his tire repair kit. The guy in a not so polite way told him to get the @#$% out there. He told the guy he was just trying to help and the guy repeated his statement. The guy that stopped to help is the clean cut deacon type person and he was driving a Goldwing. The guy that had the bike trouble was on a hog.

Another guy was riding into Galveston with his biker club vest on. He was stopped by a couple of guys from another club and they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse: “take off your vest or we will do it for you.” He took the vest off himself. They told him it was their turf.

Another guy was riding on I-10 close to Baytown with his Christian biker club t-shirt on. He was stopped by a couple of guys from another club with the same proposition. He didn’t take it off himself… so they helped him get the shirt off and took it with them.

How many of you have had similar situations and how did you deal with it?

Mike

I'm not so sure we want to get in a pissing match with ANY clubs here. I think this is a bad topic.

That's not cool, Mike. This is just one of the reasons my wife refuses to let me get a bike. Oh well. Sounds like it's best to just go incognito out there in TX.

The Houston area is pretty bad for that sort of stuff. Thats why a lot of riders are packing when they head out especially in the Baytown area.

Not good at all

I didn't mean for it to be a pissing contest. Nor did I intend to single out any club's. No matter what club you are with we should all be civil to one another. I really don't understand why folks have to be like that. I just want to live and be left alone...

It's best to ride North up 45 or towards College Station. Safer turf.

I edited out the club's name. I don't want this site to seem disrespectful to any club. Some things are best left alone.

Thanks

In this day and age there doesn't seem to be a shortage of jerks anywhere. They come on two wheels and four. I'm still one to stop and offer help and if I get a rude response I just shrug my shoulders and leave. :)

FX: Sorry for using thier name. I understand why you edited the post. I really didn't consider that it might offend a particular club.

Can yall explain how the "turf" thing works? If your a member of a club, is it best to not wear any kind of club jacket when you venture outside of your area? If your not a member of a club and your just cruising, you shouldn't have a problem in any area, right?

Up here in the great northland the "turf" thing is usually just referring to bars. Certain clubs make certain bars their home and are not real friendly to other club members intruding on their space.
The bigger biker bars like The Joint or Whiskey Junction in Minneapolis ban anyone from wearing "colors" inside the bar.

Mike,
I myself have never worn a patch, but when I lived up north, I had many friends that did. Some are in small clubs and some are in large clubs. What I have found is that clubs are like any other organization you will always find some members that like to cause trouble. The same thing could be said about just about any other group of people that you can think of. The biggest thing to keep in mind, is just be cool and do not get yourself in any trouble. The biggest way that I have seen people get into trouble to to be disrespectful of any group.
Tugs.

The club thing is sort of brain-dead anyway.

The club thing is sort of brain-dead anyway. Why do you say that? A club can be a good thing. There are clubs that serve like minded people, like vietnam vets, or police officers. There are clubs that band together to do charitable events like rides for kids with cancer, or toy runs over Christmas. Not all clubs are hoodlums, and not all hoodlums belong to a club.

bigwater, You are right. Very few people ever hear the good things that can come out of these clubs. All most people remember is when they hear something bad.
Back when I was up north, there was a large Toy Run every year. It got so bad that I stopped going to it. You could not ride in without having your picture taken and your tag recorded
