Anyone running their stock mufflers with the baffles cut out? Bought mine like that and they sound great. Super low and bassy. T'aint no other cruiser sound like that. But on the Sturgis trip, my milage went down hill and low and mid range weak. When I was at this other dealer, they said they wouldn't do it and wouldn't warranty it either. Said that they were amazed I didn't burn the valves out. Spooked me, so got D&D slip ons. Low and mid range back, still checking milage.

Anytime you modify the pipes by punching out the baffles or replacement. You need to re-jet or otherwise adjust the carb.

when I changed my stock pipes for strait pipes(stock had bad leak) .I installed a/r cone--or power cone next to the head this puts some back preasure on the exaust didn't hurt performance
but was told will help to keep valves from burning . Its been
that way for 10yrs now. no problems.
Now if you have efi well that is a whole diffrent monster.

Yeah, Got a 05 Kingpin with touring package. Where I bought the bike said I didn't need to remap as Victorys came from factory running rich. Talking to other people and the dealership where I bought the D&Ds say the opposite. When I got home I called where I bought bike and they still say they are right and other dealer spooked me into new mufflers and remap. They did say they were just trying to save me a few bucks. It ain't about the $ but whether other dealers would honor warranty with modified factory mufflers and whether I really am hurting the motor with them.

I knew I needed the remap. That pissed me off to start with. but did I need the D&D slip ons? With my factory mufflers already barreled out I would assume that they would work just fine. I've learned the hard way about assuming things (usually make an ass out of U and me)!

Well I know that many people remove the baffles on the Drag Pipes and get away with it so I would say no you didn't need the D&D's.

That's what I figured. It came down to if I was away from home and had problems, would I have a hassel at a strange dealership if I had the factory pipes on and baffels cut out. Seems to me it would be no different than aftermarket slip ons, other than it shows you changed/modified a factory piece.
