Just noticed today. I have a 2006 vstar 650 silver. I started out a little quick today and it sounded like either the clutch was slipping or the shaft was slipping. I hear no noise during any other activity. Just when I try to get a fast take off, No tire burning type but just a fast take off. Worried me so I havent tried it again...anyone know?

If I'm correct, your bike has very few miles and fully covered (warranty). Personally, I would call a dealer and explain IN DETAIL. There may well be no connection, but I can tell you there are numerous 650 owners who are somewhat paranoid about drive shaft failure since a few have experienced one. Please don't take this as a panic or scare tactic...just something to discuss with your service manager (and at least go "on record"). Some believe a lack of lube in production, but no one has a definitive answer...too spasmotic.

Hmmm
Something I guess I should do, huh?
I have had shafts drives before though. But they had all been older models. I will have to dig one up here.
Thanks

Let's just say a "documented discussion" wouldn't hurt anyone.
After all the hubub, I pulled mine a couple of months ago, cleaned inspected and lubed...all looked fine. My bike just turned 30k miles, but some have had probs at quite low mileage. Again...no pattern (miles, year model, etc.)
