I see more of this all the time, and I'm amazed that people want to ride their motorcycles in short pants! What about a spill? The thought must be: I'll get skinned up anyway, might as well have my skin ripped to the bone....Is this a 'trendie' thing or what? I must be way behind times, 'cause I would not allow any of my family ride in shorts.

Has this been brought up before?

I see it all the time here. Men and women, in sandals even. It makes me cringe..

I ride with shorts, shoes and a smile. The only thing that gives you any protection on a spill is chaps and a "good" leather jacket. Don't forget the full helmet too. Sure I'll wear things to stay warm, but summer time, forget it.

I just look at it this way. If I'm going to wear all that to ride, then I might as well drive a car. If I wreck, I pray to god that he kills me.
I'm just the type of person who rides like that for the "danger rush". Sight seeing isn't my cup of tea.

(then again I am a nut)

I'll confess that I've ridden around the neighborhood in shorts before. I've still got the burn mark on my leg to prove it.

At 55 to 65 MPH depending on the speed limit, bugs hurt! Rain stings. A cotton shirt isn't enough. In the Fall season, wind chill is a big factor. I've got to have long pants to cover my long johns.

I never ride in shorts and always wear boats. I know that some people wear a lot more protective gear, but I figure that some protection is better than nothing.

I've seen lots of peeps ride that way. I have to admit, because I trust my hubby with my life on a bike I feel like I can wear anything I want. It all boils down to this.....

Are you prepared to be flown into the next county by a cage that broadsides or pulls out in front of you?

Even jeans, while not the protection of chaps, save many layers of skin if you lay it down. Personally, I would never ride with shorts being my only protection.

I think it has already been said also, weather plays a big factor. Rain on bare skin at 60 mph hurts, most bugs on bare skin hurt, and that exhaust pipe you just got too close to hurts ;)

Demin, jeans, do offer quite a bit of protection. I have personal experience in this area. It offers more protection then you'd think.

In my case, I had bruses instead of abrasions and you could see the wear on the denim after my slide.

The only place with abrasions was my hands cause it was hot and I didn't have gloves on. My legs, denim jeans, and arms, denim jacket, had no abrasions.

My feet were saved by leather boots. There is no question in my mind that less then the over the ankle boots I had on would have come off my feet and allowed much more damage then bruises.

I almost always wear at least boots , jeans, gloves, and a mesh jacket. There have been a few 95+ days wear I'l for go the jacket . Having been down , I can tell you road rash is no fun

Is velcro good enough to keep one's boats on? or should boat lace be used. Also I hear that boat lace can get caught in the Hi/Lo gear selector.

My boots are laced high and tight. I have never experienced a tangle in the shifter.

I dunno how good velcro would do. It's surprising how one can come out of a pair of shoes in a wreck.
