We took the blue ridge parkway headed north to PA once. It's a great ride. Lot's of elevation changes and turns, but it does wear ya out after a while throwing a loaded bike with two people around.
So we checked our map and found a road down and out to the interstate. It was labled 131. It went straight down the side of the mountain about 5,000 feet sissoring back and forth. Once you got started the momentum just kept pulling and with some brake and some gear ya throw the bike back and forth making your way down. We did it in one swoop, it was awsome. We stopped at the bottom and had adrenalin to spare!
Once we got our legs back we made our way to PA to the Pocono 500 of '93 that Kile Petty won. We had hot pit passes, but that's another cool story among others of this ride.
