EBay high prices?

Been looking at R1150R's on Ebay and it seems that most of them are overpriced. A great many of them have reserves that are not met and they go unsold. 3 and 4 year old models have reserves in the vicinity of $7500 to $8500 (some more) , and according to the BMW website these bikes LIST new for under $11000. NADA values a 2002 between $4300 and $5600! I have not yet been to a dealer yet - nearest is nearly 3 hrs away - but at the prices being asked for used, wouldn't it be smarter to buy new? For those who are about to caution me about buying on Ebay, let me say that I have bought two VERY nice cars that way with very, very good results - one at 25k, the other over 30K - so I am less apprehensive about the Ebay experience than I was at first. Would certainly appreciate hearing your opinions. Thanks.

The hype is to get rich on ebay thus the high prices. Problem is; a lot of bidders get caught up in the bidding and don't realize that they could have bought new products for what they spend on used or damaged goods. You should check out the dealer...

Four years ago, I bought a BMW R100s (beautiful bike and still ride it now and then) and the freight was a nightmare. The fairing was damaged in transit and the freight line said "poor creating" so I lost out on any renumeration for the broken fairing. Screw all that! Stay local or take a trip - three hours isn't a bad first ride!
