Screamin' Eagle

I decided to go with Screamin Eagle II Mufflers on my stock exhaust for now on my 2002 fatboy. I had wanted to go V&H but that will have to wait. My questions are,
1) I have never heard how they sound. Will there be a big difference for the anemic sound I have now?
2)If I am only upgrading the mufflers can I get away without adjusting the carb (flstf)? Figure if I can avoid it I can at least do the install myself.
Thanks to all of you for a great group. I enjoy all the posts! thanks

I had screamin eagle mufflers on my 91 FXRS. (Sitting in the corner of the garage now) I like the performance I got from um, the bike had a lot of low end.

You can get away with not adjusting the carb, but I recomend adjusting the carb on any change. By changing the mufflers your changing the lean/rich condition of the carb. Too lean and it will run hotter causing your pipes to blue. The only way to check air fuel mixture (exactly) is on a dyno. Many times "tuning the carb only" can result in a couple hp gain!

I'm with Iron -eater , my ride's previous owner had put on the SE slip-ons and not touched the carb . I'd suggest getting the SE aircleaner/breather then re-jet to , it is well worth the investment . The stock intake restricts about 25% of the air the engine tries to pull in . My girl friend went this route, I opted for the Mikuni carb instead of the re-jet , both of us are real happy with the change.

I think the dealers refer to this as a stage one kit.

When I purchased my XLH, the old owner had just installed SE Slip-ons, but not rejetted. It took forever to warm up and still coughed and sputtered. I reluctently took it to the dealer and had the SE air kit installed and the carb rejetter. WOW, what a difference. Get the carb done and you will get the most out of your upgrade, assuming the mechanic knows what he's doing.

Also if you ride is jetted and tuned right your pipes are less likely to blue on ya ! nothing like blue chrome when you don't want it there.
