New Pipes

I'm ready to replace the stock pipes on my '05 V-Star 1100 Silverado but don't have a clue which ones sound best. I'm looking for something loud, but not so loud that it annoys the neighbors. Any help is greatly appreciated.

which ones sound best.

Not meant to be frivolous answer, but there is no 'best sound'. It's just too subjective. For what it's worth, I can tell you there is NO substitute for hearing various types already installed on bikes and deciding from there. With all the forums, I'll bet you will be able to find people in your general vicinity to meet up with. As a member of a Star Group, I was able to hear different systems before getting hasty and regretting later. BTW, recorded sound bites don't do it.

We have an open invitation for riding groups to have their own forum here to talk to each other. If you think you group could use a communication tool like the forum to keep up with each other in real time, we'd be glad to discuss accomadating that for free.

Thanks much...very thoughtful. I'll present the idea at the next meeting and try to determine how much interest there may be.

I'm running Cobra Low Boy shot guns on my 02 1100 , Silverado. Great sound. Look great.

Thanks for the info Tat. I've acually looked at Cobra and like the look of those pipes. You ride with the US Military Vets M/C Club? When and where did you serve? I spent 4 active and 18 reserve in the USAF.

I put a set of Hard Chrome (note sure of spelling) on a 1700 Midnight. They sound great and the only thing is we had to remove the AIS system (pollution).
This is the first time that I have worked on a Star Bike. I have always rode Harley's, but this bike was very easy to mess with.

After talking to several people and reading the reviews I purchased a set of Vance & Hines Classic 11 Slip-on mufflers for my 05 V Star 1100 Silverado , they were easy to install, their a little loud for my older taste but do sound good, I had a problem with the packing in the mufflers as the packing had slipped back, from the factory, Vance & Hines when contacted were very good about sending a new set of packing and after installing the new packing it did make a differance! I just disconnected the two AIS(?) hoses one at each end and connected them back to themselves, I haven't had to do any re-jetting, and from what I've read this will work fine, mine does anyway! They also look very good.

Good luck, Larry M

I just got my pipes modified a week ago. A local shop cut off the old mufflers and put in some 2.5" truck exhaust pipe. They left alot of the baffle in so it sounds loud, but not so loud that I'd wake all the neighbors at 6am. They said since there is still proper backpressure, I didn't need to rejet. We'll see how that goes. Oh, by the way Morton's Customs has some kick ass pipes for yamahas, you may want to give them a look.

If you just put on the pipes and still have stock intake you don't have to rejet the bike. If the intake is changed with aftermarket pipes then a jetting is inline. But to be honest I am runing a 02 vstar 650 with a hypercharger and cobra drags without a rejet and it runs just fine in my book, so I don't see a need to rejet, unless its going to make a noticeable change in power and performance.
