I just recently bought a 98 zx6r, and the previous owner had not ridden it for a while, so the carbs were kind of dirty. So I brought it home, took out the carbs, cleaned them from top to bottom, put them back in, and it still is kind of boggy in the low rpms, say around 1 to 4. Anybody have a diagnosis of what I should try next? Thanks
I do not know anything about your Motorcycle in particular. I do have a question, did you clean and flush out the fuel tank and lines?

Sounds like the Idle circuits are clogged. This happens on many carbed bikes that are not stored properly. They must be cleaned very carefully, preferrably in carb cleaner, blown out completely, and rebuilt to factory specs. Those bikes are very sensative to carb issues.

What exactly are the Idle circuits? Where are they located?

They are little passages that goe from the bowl into the throat of the carb. They work on the vacumn created by the engine air going through the carb throat. They are sized so that the engine runs off of the idle circuit until you get to a certain RPM and then either the pump shoots in more fuel or as the slides open it exposes other passages of a larger size that draw more fuel in direct relation to the amount of air being drawn into the motor.
As far as where they are located, it is different on different styles of carbs, but as a rule, they are usually in the lower half of the inboard throat of the carb. They just look like a small hole the size of a pin or small paper clip. Bets to get diagrams of the carbs if you can. These are usually included with rebuild kits or in the service manuals.
