I am looking for some advice on swapping out the cams on my 03 FLHT. Stage II upgrades include SE mufflers, Jost tube and jets, and K&N air filter. Nice gain from this but am still looking for more on the bottom. This is an everyday rider so i dont want to turn it ino a rocket and I also dont want to get into changeing the head etc. Please post if you have done a bolt on cam upgrade and let me know your results.
Thnx

You can do most of the work yourself ,you can even press the cams out and in your self if you feel confident in your skills.I did pipes,Jets(made a big difference),Air cleaner, and Cams(Andrews TW 37).Performance was better but not what I expected until yesterday when I installed a programmable ignition(daytona twin tec) I advanced the timing a degree or two and it made a huge difference.Easier starting, smother idle, pulls stronger all through the range.I recommend a programmable ignition with a cam change to Dial in the timing.I stayed with the chain drive cams until I do the 95'' pistons and get the heads done.I'm not going to recommend a cam for you because there are too many choices. There are some new cams out from Dave Mackie,Headquarters,Cycle-rama and other that claim good response at all rpm on stock or slightly modified bikes.Good luck in your choice
I agree, to get the bottom, you need a progammable timing curve. I did this and got rid of the vacume retard as well. I have no problems with lugging it on the low RPMs.

If your staying with stock heads (non ported) and displacement and don't want to go gear drive , I'd look the Andrews TW21 or TW26

Lots of options out there. Most of the guys around here agree that I cant go wrong with the HD SE-203. However if I can get the same thing going and not have to spend as much I would be just as happpy to buy aftermarket. Anybody got any feed back on the 203's?

Intake lift Exhaust Lift Int Duration Ex Duration Overlap
STOCK .473 .473 216 220 2
SE-203 .510 .483 234 239 35
SE-204 .508 .508 236 240 30
SE-211 .508 .508 248 256 40
TW-21 .498 .498 220 228 18
TW-26 .490 .490 226 230 20
As a general rule, cams with 220-235 degrees of duration tend to produce better low end torque. Cams with 235-250 degrees of duration tend to work best in the mid-ranges Camshaft overlap duration less than 30 degrees tends to produce good low end power.
If you notice the TW21 and 26 have duration and overlap that is geared toward the low end , which is usually what baggers need. The 203 is certainly better than the stock cam , but I'd still go with the Andrews.
