There weren't too many organized events up here, but lots of bikes were on the road. First sunny day since I don't know when.

My friends and I took a short ride over to a local farm. We had a few beers and then I got thrown in a lake. (Rat bastards!!!!!) I also got sunburned, but I still enjoyed myself. :clapper:

Very emotional day, especially with talking to a lot of parents who lost children in Iraq, a Medal of Honor recipient, and the ceremonies at the wall. It was something I will NEVER forget.

I wanted to make that run, but I just could not find any groups leaving out of Bethany Beach Delaware. When I talked to some people from rolling thunder, they advised me against taking my son on this run. And this was his weekend to do as he wanted because he has done so well in school this year. I will make it next year. I am taking him to the wall, just not on the big run.

How old is your son, My daughter will be 7 in June and I took her, and everybody LOVED her. She wore her "My mommy is in the US Army" T shirt, and we got stopped for pictures and hugs constantly. You probably dont want to hear that now though:wink: Other than that I went solo, my wife is still learning to ride so didnt want to take her bike up, so we took the camper up and stayed just south of Andrews AFB. We got up Sunday morning and went out. She took our van and 3yo and had to park in the south lot, and walk aroung to the north where we were. Then instrad of walking back and taking the Metro over, she walked the nearly 3 miles from there to the wall. She was a real trooper, both her and the baby.

exdog, I used to live in Maryland and a group of us would make the run to the wall every year rain or shine. I will forever remember seeing all of the people at the wall looking for names and others just staring with tears in their eyes.

Now especially with everything gong on we all need to thank all the men and women that serve or have served in the Armed Forces. To many times politics get in the way of all of these heroes getting the thanks that they deserve.

Thanks and God Bless to all of our Military.

I was just going on the advice of one of the local Rolling Thunder organizers. He said that it could be very overwhelming for a younger child. But by your experience, sounds like we missed a really great run. I mad a post a little while back to see if any other RI riders were going. I will definately make the run next year. We are going to the memorial next week though.

As long as we are still at Fort Lee, I will definitely be going. I will do a little better planning though. We stayed at a campground for 39 a night when we could have stayed at Bolling AFB for 28 in a hotel, or 14 on Andrews' Campground. A lot of folks said they were expectimg over a million bikes next year, 20th anniv of the ride and 25th for the wall, I'd have to agree.

BTW Tugs, We used to live in the Tampa area. Feel free to look aroung on that site I posted. There are some pictures of the 2004 Memorial day ride from Brandon Harley to Bushnell & Florida National Cemetary where we met Gov Bush.

I was a day rider when the Ride to the Wall passed through Indiana. It was an escorted ride from Michigan City, IN to West Layette, IN. Police were blocking most of the intersections, and at US Rt. 30, one was standing at attention and saluting all of us. I have rarely felt more proud than at that time.

My Dad's a vet and was in a lot of the invasions in WW2. I rode down to watch the Indy 500 with him in Ocala. 4 days on the road, but well worth it. BTW, it is REALLY stupid to try to get through Atlanta at rush hour on a Holliday Fri! Two hours of stop and go, even in the car pool lane

How many of you know that some of the Nam POW's were held for 8-1/2 years? That is the longest of any US war.

It's ok to respect vets and not respect one for running an abate gig. They don't get many things good said about them here that I am aware of.

But let's not forget this is not about abate, but the memorial ride.

Thanks

I am aware that ABATE has does alot of good other than fight for the rights of choice to wear a helmet. they were origianally designed to teach safety i beleive and they do alot of good lobbying for motorcyclists.
not going to let one bad apple spoil that for me.

i still support abate. someone has to represent us. and what is 20.00?
moving on,=============================================== =
yeah, memorial day is apon us!!
ride safe
