New to the cycle world and having problems...

HI all!!!

I am new to the cycleworld, just finished my safety course and bought my first bike about two months ago... I'm not one that is mechanically inclined, so any input would be more than appreciative.

I was going to work this morning and as I took off from a stop light, my bike kind of ran out of juice. I was able to give it gas until 3500 rpm's, then it seemed like the engine was bogging down and made a strange noise. I couldn't gain any further speed from each gear after I hit 3500. This occured in all gears. Below 3500 rpm's was fine.

Any ideas? Thoughts?

My bike is a 1982 Yamaha Maxim XJ750.

Thank you!!
Cory

Sounds like the choke was on or the enrichener was on starving it for air or flooding it.

Was the bike cold and did the problem go away when it warmed up?

Welcome to the forum.

Was the gas fresh, are the airboxes clogged?

Had a similiar problem on a POS honda I was playing around with a few years ago. The high speed jet was clogged. Replaced both high and low speed jets and it ran fine. If the motorcycle mechanics are anything like the assholes we have around here you might want to buy a repair book for your bike and a good set of tools.
Every damn time I took my bike into the Yamaha dealer they broke something. They assured me they could work on a Guzzi. They were wrong. Hell I took my rear wheel in to have a new tire and tube put on. I took them the new tire, tube and tube guard. The shit-head used the old tube, did not put any guard between the tube and spoked rim and put the tire on BACKWARDS!!!
If I ever find a good deal on a flame thrower on e-bay I would love to try it out on their shop. learn to be your own mechanic if you want it done right. joebasta
