Just bought a brand new '07 650 Classic this week, have put only 60 miles on it, kinda waiting for the engine guards and windshield to arrive but I noticed it barely pulls 65mph yet pulls like a mule at lower speeds, also theres a pretty noticable tranny whine in all gears when rolling on the throttle.....also while it shifts real easy, it makes a real loud clunk as each selected gear engages. The clutch is adjusted correctly as the lever free-play is correct.

Will the higher rpm power and noise issues improve as the break-in period progresses?

Yes, you will see a differance. That was what I had. It will settle in around 500 to 1000 miles and stay that way. Mine came in around 250 miles. I still have a clutch noise that no one wants to help with but other than that it's all good.

Patience grasshopper..

Having the same concerns with my 2008 Honda Shadow VT750C2. A friend told me to take it in to have it serviced after the break in period which is about 600 to 1000 Miles (as per the dealer).
