Hi. I'm a National Guardsman deployed in Iraq. I've been doing combat patrols around Baghdad. I've decided to reward myself by getting a Harley when I get back. I have very little riding experience and this will be my first motorcycle. I started a thread in the Veterans Hall section and a guy said something about a discount Harley gives to soldiers in Iraq. I've been trying to find information about it but have had no results. If anyone could give me some info on this it would be great.

All I could find is mention of an extended warranty:

I have a cousin that has to do a bushel basket of paperwork for a living any time a airman cracks up his bike for example. The Army has some thumper diesel dirt bikes. I'll bet they would give you a training course.

Okay, I did a little research on it since I'm the one who suggested it in the original thread, and it's officially titled the "Harley-Davidson Overseas Military Sales Program". It's offered through participating dealers, although little can be found out about it from Harley's website.
This dealer has some teaser information:

A google search on the topic brings up a "contact HD" (https://profile.harley-davidson.com/cpapp/campaign/signupAttainNew.h-d?camp_id=13&source_cd=Google_leadgen-motorcycle) page. I'd drop them a note and ask for specifics.
I know this is a valid program. We have a US Army Ranger camp in our county, and a couple of the guys from camp bought Harleys while they were overseas. That's how I knew about the program in the first place

Hey Big Water. Thanks for the info and the sugestions. I'll look into as soon as I can. Although, I have thought about your advise about my first bike and I'm considering getting a Honda Shadow. They are a lot cheaper and I'm sure I'll screw up my first bike somehow. What was the first thing you bought?

My first street bike was a Honda CB500T back in 1977. I was 14 years old. My dad won it in a poker game and gave it to me just to piss my mom off. They were going through a divorce, and he would do anything he could do to piss her off... and boy did that piss her off *bad*.
Back then you could get a motorcycle license in Alabama at 14, and the first time I came home riding that thing I thought my mom was going to EXPLODE.
Hehehehe, it's funny in retrospect, but it wasn't so funny at the time.

Check with your PX (exchange). I was in the Navy for almost ten years and we had a program where Sailors could get vehicles through a special deal directly with the factory at greatly discounted prices.
You have to be deployed overseas I think. But double check. It's directly through the service.
