I am in the process of adding a CX500 to my stable. Has anyone experienced any problems with these bikes in the past.? Any information (good or bad) would be a great help. Look forward to any replies, there's always somebody with great info on this site.

Lewy, is it the Silverwing or the older model? I had a '79. It was a durable bike but the shaft drive in that about beat me to death. It may have been my bike too, maybe not the nature of the beast.
Hi jrbooe,
Not sure what model it is. Wont be getting it for a couple of days. Waiting for an M.O.T. (road worthiness test) to be done on it. I'll let you know as soon as i can. Any input would be fantastic. From anyone.
Jim.
Hey jrbooe,
I got the CX500. Doesnt say if its a Silverwing or what. It's a 1980 model with 50,000 miles on the clock.
Slight problem, CX was running hot (temperature gauge sky high) removed the thermostat. Seemed to run O.K for a short while but temp gauge is back up again after about 7 miles. Also, uses a lot of water, about a pint a week. Any ideas anyone.??

Lewy, either a blown head gasket or plugged radiator, does that bike have an electric fan, I can't remember. If so see if the fan is working.
It does have a fan, but its after midnight. Will check to see if its working in the morning. Thanks for that. I'll keep you posted.
Well, after months of work, CX is back on the road. Replaced all gaskets, spring valve was rusted. Radiator almost disintegrated. Managed to get a new one, YES NEW for a 26 year old bike. (God bless E-Bay). I am used to my 1100 Shadow A.C.E. and the CX is taking a bit of getting used to. Nice and nippy you can throw it all over the road. 52,000 miles on the clock, I reckon I should get at least what I paid for this bike when I sell in a couple of years.
