Great idea for a thread Tugs...Thanks...
In regard to comments made in posts in the Billy Lane trial thread...
A few have said they didn't desire to see him dead, and one even mentioned he deserved to live in dumpsters...
Well...I can think of one dead guy that would probably like to trade places with Billy Lane and would probably glady live in a dumpster if he could make that trade...
Lane fucked up....In my opinion, when he got behind the wheel drunk...He made the conscious decision that he had the right to kill.
No plea bargaining should be allowed in a case where a person was killed by a drunk driver.
There has never been a honest or legitimate reason the drive drunk...not then, not now, not ever.
If you can't find a sober person to drive you...then you don't need to go.
And I don't buy the excuse that you got hurt and need medical attention immediately or you might die, so you just had to drive to the hospital drunk...If you were that injured you'd likely lose consciousness or be so dangerous, you'd kill someone else along with your wasted ass....
Anyone..celeberty or commoner that drives drunk, deserves to be punished under the full extent of the law....

To tell the truth, I'm not quite sure on how I feel about the death penalty, but I don't believe that will be a concern for Lane since I don't believe he is getting charged with first degree murder. I kinda think you need to be charged with murder in the first degree to face the death penalty. And premeditation needs to be part of the crime to be charged with first degree.

But it's been almost ten years since I dealt with the courts and and any murder trials I've been involved in as an advocate ended up as a second degree murder rap because it was a crime of "passion", done with malice but without premeditation.

Of course, each state is different anyway. Florida may differ from Pennsylvania in some aspects, but I still don't see Lane getting the death penalty.

MrMNO, can ya help me out here?

I think it would be a worse punishment to live the rest of my life knowing that I took the life of someone. I'd rip myself apart. To me, the death penalty would be the EASIER way out for me. And quite frankly, I think if I caused a death of someone in the way Lane did . . . well, the death penalty would sound like a good thing, compared to what I'd put myself through.

Living your life as a pariah, losing a multi-million dollar business, losing all respect from the majority of the biking community . . . nope, that won't bring Mr. Morelock back. But killing Lane won't do that either. He should most definitely get jail time and I hope the Morelock family cleans out his fucking bank accounts, but that isn't gonna bring back Mr. Morelock either.

And I believe that he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law too, but I don't see the death penalty being part of that, as per our laws.

I agree...To the full extent of the law...
Not the abbreviated version after a plea bargain has stripped the guts out of the law...or the crime has been reduced to some misdemeanor.
I don't go along with the death sentence per si....
In some instances it is appropriate...but not in this case.
I believe a 20 year time out for Billy would do wonders for the safety of motorists all over America...at least one out of control driver would be safely detained from driving...drunk or otherwise.
Billy may serve as an example to some young people about what can happen to you when you become rich and famous faster than you become wise...or maybe just stand as proof of what acting the fool will net you in the end. I would hope his punishment would serve to show that drunk driving is deadly and that no one has a right to drive under the influence...for any reason.
Yeah...I am the kettle calling the pot black...at one time anyway. And I thank God I never killed anyone , and only hurt myself and my own property as a result of my drunken antics....
I did jail time for my drunk driving, but I am not a celeberty or a person of notoriety. Billy may skirt the punishment because he is, and that would be an absolute injustice to the Morelock family and to every other driver that expects to be protected from drunken fools behind the wheel of a two ton weapon of mass destruction.

Well said Bighop. I find it hard to differentiate between extremes, but the headlines on CNN today is about the indictment of a pervert and his PARENTS, who raped and murdered a six year old innocent boy from their neighborhood.

Those mother___ckers should die if found guilty, plain and simple, I cannot believe anyone could believe any different, these are not people, they are human predators, and contribute nothing but hurt, violence and death to those in our world who try to just get along.

In Lane's case, an arrogant and unthinking error in judgement brought on by alcohol, rather than an intended predatory lifestyle, is the difference. Should he be found guilty (and I cannot see why he wouldn't be), then a mandatory life sentence should be handed down, but death? I am not sure. Not defending him, any idiot that does what he did deserves to go down, but death? I just see a difference in levels of offence I guess. Just my $ .02....

I posted this in a different thread, to AJA, but again... to the general public Billy Lane is a nobody. To the world a drunk got behind the wheel of a Dodge truck and ran over a half drunk riding a scooter. Unfortunately, drunks kill people on the roads everyday. To the courts in Florida and the national media this is a non-event. Billy Lane will get the same sentence for vehicular manslaughter that anyone gets under Florida law. Right or wrong. :(

I think the MAIN thing is that he get the MAX for his crime and not some watered down slap on the wrist because he was a celeb. To drag the case out as long as possible to get the reductions is wrong. He did the crime now he should do the time. And Bubba's waiting for him.

To most of the world , Lane is a nobody...but in his little corner of the earth, he managed to amass a small fortune which will carry him further from punishment than fame will...
He can lose all credability as a celeb...but if he retains the money, he still has as much power as he ever had...
Even OJ gets what he wants because he is still some what monied...and he has fallen so far from the heights of celeberty it isn't even funny.
Money talks...and bull shit walks!

Billy might have got sideways whether he had been drinkin' or not. He was speeding, passing illegally, and maybe playin' stinkfinger or whatever with the chick that was with him. The alcohol thing is the "mortal sin" that he is being charged with. Wonder what they would do to him if he had not been drinking, or was below the legal limit, but instead had been trying to read a text message or his missed call list and the same events had taken place. It's all about mental diversion, I've seen drivers blow thru red lights while they were lookin' at a damn cell phone. Just a thought.

But then there's the suspened license issue. If one's license is suspended, one should not be behind the wheel, drunk or sober.

True, that is another major issue, apparently he's got a behavioral problem. Maybe he should try to get his last name changed to Kennedy.

I understand that castration does wonders for behavioral disorders....

If he had killed in a honest accident...I can forgive and overlook a lot....

But he didn't...

Even if his only malfeasance were driving without a license...He still mindfully and willfully broke the law, and needs to be punished.

Now......add to that, passing in a no passing zone...Speeding ...Intoxicated ...and you have a recipe that screams..."NO PLEA BARGAIN"

That's 4 laws broken at once...not to mention the stinkfinger if it were relevant...and I am not sure that would be deemed illegal...but surely would be looked upon as distracting...

If enough women politicians get elected into office it, (stinkfinger) probably will be deemed illegal.....but then again, maybe not. Hillary don't seem to have a problem with it. Her Billy has some "behavorial disorders" too.
It's a shame Billy L. hit that poor dude on the scooter, those few seconds sure made a helluva impact on their worlds. If it would have been 2 or 3 secs ahead or behind, it would have never happened. Guess it was the wrong place, wrong time thing for both of 'em.

Matter of fact that's how I found this humble forum...looking for some info on Lane and the "accident"

Here's an article where a judge was killed by a cage driver towing a boat and the possibility of alcohol involved. http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0408judge0408.html

A Maricopa County judge who handled several high-profile cases, including a student terrorism threat at a Chandler high school, was killed in a collision while riding his motorcycle south of Florence, officials said Saturday.

The accident occurred on State Route 79 near mile post 121, about 12 miles south of Florence. DPS officers closed SR 79 in both directions for about seven hours.

...

A DPS spokesman, Detective Tim Mason, said Gaylord died at the scene. He said the other driver, James Matthewson, 26, of Tucson, was southbound in a Land Rover pulling the boat when he veered off the road and overcorrected, causing the boat to cross into the northbound lane and strike Gaylord.

Mason said in a press release that "Matthewson's possible use of alcohol may have been a contributing factor."

Do you think that this poor schmuck of a cage driver will go down before Billy Lane if Billy Lane does go down for his alleged actions which were similar, but the dead guy was not a judge?

Ya wanna start a betting pool?
I got cash says this guy is sentenced , serves his time and is released before Lane ever goes to trial.
