Sneauman 12-02-2004, 08:49 AM We have no helmet law in Indiana, so I typically don't wear one. I know it's safer and a smart thing to do, but to me, it just takes away from the whole experience.
I rode my bike all of Sept this year into the end of Oct, it was getting down into the high 30's, so I started wearing my full faced Shoei helmet.
The damn thing makes me MORE dangerous!
I feel even more invincible, so I tend to take more risks!
I guess I'm gonna have to get me one of dem dare slow bikes, like a Harley, before I kill myself! :poke:
Anyway, how do you folks like or dislike helmets? :idunno:
Helmet laws suck. :sign this
I wear one and it saved my noggin last time I was not myself. I agree to each their own though. But being bald it protects my head from sunburn here in florida too.
riceBurner 12-02-2004, 11:42 AM Helmets are a "no-brainer"! As cool or uncool, whichever category you consider them, they will save your life!
That is a matter of opinion. To each his own.
One thing I do think is unfair is the money we spend on under insured people's head injuries. That IMO sucks. You should have to cover your own expenses, not me.

Ya know...I was gonna say that in my last post. However I remembered that we had discussed this same thing a while back.
I agree...I think if someone wants to sign a waiver at the DMV that if they incur a brain injury without wearing a helmet, they can pay for their own care for said injury.
Dont get me wrong, I do realize that you can suffer a head injury even wearing a helmet. But you reduce the risk greatly by having one on.

I agree with this, not because I think helmets are a bad thing but because I believe it should be my choice. I mean there are occasions and places that I would ride without one.
Good to see ya here :BB1:
tat2ed 12-02-2004, 05:52 PM I do not wear a helmet on the bike or a seatbelt in my car. I guess I am just funny that way. :grim reap
LOADED 12-02-2004, 06:23 PM DID SOME ONE SAY HELMET?

SPORTSTER04 12-02-2004, 10:01 PM :break bed ... HELMETS ARE GOOD ON THE BIKE AND IN OTHER PLACES TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with ya...it should be YOUR choice to wear one or not. However on the same note it should be our choice to not have to pay for it in higher insurance premiums (the overall motorcycle community.)
Thats my only concern really. I, like alot of people, have ridden without a bucket and probably will do it again. I just dont think its fair for the riding world(US) at large to have to pay for it.

I do agree, but how would we set it up so those who DO choose to wear a lid didn't have to pay extra on their premiums? Hard to do I would think.
riceBurner 12-03-2004, 09:28 AM Well 84....its something that wouldnt be fixed overnight. I dont know about the rest of the US, but where I live you have to have a motorcycle endorsement on your drivers liscence to even "legally" ride a motorcycle on the street. Perhaps it could be another endorsement on your liscence that states wether you will wear protective gear(ie Helmet) 100% of the time or not. If you state "Yes" that you will you will be given the discount on your premium.
Also on the same note....if you are involved in an accident, and you have the status marked on your liscence that you will always wear a helmet....and in said accident you did NOT have the helmet on, then you will be totally held responsible for all med bills incurred.
I know...not an easy or pretty picture....but something has gotta give....at the same time giving people their freedom to choose...just not at the expense of others
:D
84FLH 12-03-2004, 10:40 AM I think ya got some good ideas :signgood: ;)
trbeemer 03-07-2005, 01:33 PM Yup, I'm a helmet guy.
NEVER ride it without one. Full coverage helmet at that. I've been down and smacked the helmet on the pavement a couple of times.
Maybe, j-u-s-t maybe, some of the riders who don't
would if they ever been down (provided they had survived) like I was.
Not trying to start a fight!

Experience, we all want to get it ourselves. On this issue though, letting go of your pride and trusting another to give you good advice could save your live.
But in the end, it's your choice.
