<img align="left" src="http://www.riderinfo.com/news_images/love2ride.jpg" border="0" style="margin-right:6px" alt="store front picture" />Over the May 19th, 2007 weekend motorcyclists from all around Florida joined together to raise awareness of motorcycle safety and child abuse by having a poker run and a parade.
The Chapter One C.O.B.B. Society of Florida organized the Can You See Me Now (http://www.riderinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5837/) rally to help educate auto drivers and raise their awareness of motorcycles on our roads and highways. The rally featured parades originating at points all around Central Florida which all converged on Old Town.
The leg of the run out of Gator Harley Davidson in Leesburg was to ride off at about 1pm or so and by 12 noon the back parking lot was about full of motorcycles. Many locals as well as members of organizations that ride motorcycles were out in support of the rally and were having a great time while supporting an important cause which affects all of us that ride motorcycles. Later after the ride, the local folks met back at the County Line Bar for Entertainment and to relax, more on that later.
The newly formed Bikers Against Child Abuse Chapter of the Lake Sumter County area held a poker run (http://www.riderinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6042/) to raise money that will be used to help victims of child abuse. The run started at Love 2 Ride on Main Street in Leesburg and ended at Steve’s Lounge in Leesburg.
At Love 2 Ride support patches, pins, shirts and hats were available for purchase with the proceeds going to support B.A.C.A.. While the run is over for now, you can still support this cause by purchasing support gear or making a tax deductible donation. Stop by Love 2 Ride or contact B.A.C.A. for more details.
The last stop of the run at Steve’s Lounge featured The Mean Season Band performing the music. Mean Season rocked the place with all original music and featured solo performances by the band members.
Several local businesses, including Gator Harley Davidson of Leesburg, donated quality prizes for raffle drawings and door prizes that any motorcyclist would want and find useful to help raise money for B.A.C.A.. Many of the generous folks that donated money to the children walked away with one.
In August there will be a support run for abused children as a follow up to this run. We have about 130 miles mapped out for 5 stops. Each stop will feature a different Gumbo and or Chile dish. The after party is going to be at the County Line Bar. Stay tuned for more details this week.
After the B.A.C.A run wrapped up, it was off to meet up at the County Line Bar for an after party for the folks that attended the C.O.B.B. awareness run and entertainment by the SlingShot Band out of Kissimmee Florida. SlingShot played classic rock and blues keeping the spirits of the crowd high and the dance floor full.
The County Line Bar is under new ownership. There are many changes taking place there and most of them revolve around catering to bikers. There is a new motorcycle only parking area that is fully paved. In fact, the whole parking area in now paved and freshly painted.
After you park your motorcycle or car at the County Line, you can relax inside knowing it is safe because there is a full security system with cameras keeping an eye on your stuff. You can even see for yourself on the TV screens inside the bar.
So stop by the County Line Bar if you have not been there lately. There’s always a good time to be had when you visit.
The weekend didn’t end there, but we’ll save the cow story and Gumbo’s secret ingredient story for another article.
