76 FXE 08-02-2007, 06:24 PM I've been restoring my super glide which is actually more like a resurrection since most of the original parts were out back in the pole barn covered in dirt form armadillos and other critters.I combed the area with a rake and screened some of the dirt and found most of the parts
Is this your next build or what your current bike came from?
76 FXE 08-02-2007, 06:33 PM The motor has been completly re-machined I have all the motor parts stored in boxes, along with new stator, regulator, cam, pistons rings, gaskets and other parts. here's another pic of the old bike
76 FXE 08-02-2007, 06:41 PM This is my current build, those pics are a couple months old ,since then I had the frame powder coated, polished all the aluminum, disassembled the wheels polished and painted the hubs and spokes new rims and trued them, got nos pipes, seat and sissy bar,and fork tubes, got some better sheet metal and tons of little parts.here's what it looks like now
76 FXE 08-02-2007, 06:52 PM Also got new shocks, tires(conti twins) and found the original tank transfers and a decent set of gauges.I'm trying to get as close to stock as possible without spending more then its worth. The motor and tranny are next. Then wiring, brakes, controls and cables, paint and other detail stuff
76 FXE 08-02-2007, 07:43 PM check out these funky lokking pipes I got, they are genuine HD and right for my year
76 FXE 08-02-2007, 07:56 PM The baffles look kind of jappy but they are unique.
bufordtpisser 08-03-2007, 08:23 AM Nice build. Keep us posted. I just sold a 1974 FXE because I did not have the time to do it justice. Got a house to build and way too many other interests. It looks real good from what you have done so far.
76 FXE 08-11-2007, 06:30 AM I'm getting the motor parts ready to assemble,I need to get the rest of the chrome off my rocker boxes.I peeled off about 1/3 of it now I'm going to try my friends big sandblaster...I probably should be dumping this cash into my house but it'll have to wait for me to have some fun first..
76 FXE 08-11-2007, 06:35 AM tank transfers
76 FXE 08-15-2007, 07:31 PM Sand blasting didn't work on the chrome so I picked up another set for $100
76 FXE 08-15-2007, 07:34 PM They polished up nice
Nice job on the shine. Looks like the build is moving along well.
76 FXE 08-15-2007, 07:38 PM Thanks FX,I can find the time, its scraping up the $$ thats hard.
Tell me about it. I have a shop bill to deal with tomorrow.
Trust me when I say I know what you are going through. When I had my 83 FXR I re-did just about everything on it. It was a bitch as they only made that model for two (82-83) years. That plus the fact that it was the last Shovelhead made and with it having a five speed made it even more fun finding parts. I sure wish I had never sold that bike:fit: One more thing to thank my ex-wife for:nono:
bufordtpisser 08-16-2007, 07:06 AM Looks like it is moving along just fine. Keep up the good work, and keep us posted. Do you have shop and parts manuals for it. If not I have a set of both that I will send you. I do not need them since the bike was sold.
76 FXE 08-17-2007, 06:28 AM Thanks for the offer but I already have them.Manuals are the first tool I get for any project.
76 FXE 09-18-2007, 05:51 PM got the motor together and in the frame, working on the primary and tranny now
