This is from the local papers website................

GAP, Pa. -- An 18-year-old Lancaster County high school student was killed Monday in a crash near Gap.

Keith Vandyke, a student at Pequea Valley High School, was riding a motorcycle on Lincoln Highway in Salisbury Township when an SUV turned into his path, according to police. Vandyke was killed in the crash.

The school district said counselors would be available to students today.

Notice that they do not even make mention of the fact that he was wearing a full face helmet. They are quick to make mention when someone is not wearing a helmet though.

The local paper here, is very quick to mention when a rider is not wearing a helmet but never mentions when one is wearing one.

R.I.P. Keith. I agree with your comment Buf, they ALWAYS mention it when someone is NOT wearing a helmet. Here in the gestapo state (NJ) it's the law, everyone has to wear a helmet.

NJ is surely one of the most corrupt states. The legal system is morally bankrupt there it appears.

Too bad about this kid.

He was very popular kid. Wanted to get a ride or two in while the weather was nice. Been in the 60 and 70 here the past couple of days. That is one reason why I will not ride in the winter months. You think people are blind during the Riding season, you should see them during the down season up here. They do not expect us to be riding bikes in the winter no matter how nice the weather is. That supposedly was the drivers comment. I did not expect a motorcycle. And he was not speeding or doing anything stupid.

I was taught to expect the unexpected when I took drivers training...
WAY back in the day...
I learned watch for elephants on unicycles in a snow storm....ya never know.
Not watching out for ANY obstacle, is as inexcusable as driving drunk...
Even after the snow melts during one of our January thaws here in the Tundra(Michigan)...there's still the 6-7 inches of salt to contend with, so the bike remains in hibernation.

I was looking for a link to an article on a man who just rode his millionth mile because I thought someone might be interested in it here. I came upon a small article on a recent motorcycle fatality and the fact that he was NOT wearing a helmet was indeed mentioned. However that's not what bothered me about the whole thing. It was that stupid "talk back" or "back talk" (whatever the fuck they call it) that newspapers put on their websites allowing the public to make comments.

Article (http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/News/EastVolusia/evlEAST02011008.htm)

First comment - "Thats what you get for riding a death trap with no safety protections. As you can see by the lack of comments, nobody really cares."

Hateful, hateful, hateful.

I am so sick of the media (and by the way, my degree is in journalism and I've worked as a reporter) allowing this anonymous crap on their web sites. You got an opinion you want heard - write a letter to the editor and have the balls to sign your name to it. The comment did have what looked to be a first name and a last name affixed to it but I find it highly unlikely that it's genuine.

And if it is his real name, I hope a friend or family member of the deceased hunts him down and beats his ass.

And a another indignity - they didn't put the article about the guy hitting his one millionth mile on their web site. So no link. Bastards.

Aja, a great example of the talk back crap was in the Orlando Mullet Wrapper when Earl passed away. Talk about a bunch of idiots posting remarks. And of course the Orlando Slantinel never once put any disclaimers in that those were merely opinions posted by readers and not those of fact. Fucking fuckers, they can all kiss my Rebel Dick.

I remember that. It's tacky, unprofessional and ruins what little credibility most newspapers have left. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the page stating that comments are reviewed. Reviewed for fucking what?

Oh yeah, and media bias. Hell, according to the local bleeding heart, trustworthy news stations in Orlando, after the New Hampshire primary they are already proclaiming Hillary Clinton as winning the general national election. A might early don't you think?

To elliterate a little more on my last post and to be fair to both sides let me just say this; Fox News "fair and balanced" Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Rush Limbaugh what a freaking joke. It appears whether you be to the right or left, you can never be anything less than subjective in your reporting.
And back to Buf's original subject, I was reading another local paper this morning in which a biker was hit by a car which ran a red light, the paper said nothing about the carelesness and the negligence of the cage rider but did make a huge point to say it was "unclear" whether the rider had a lid on or not. Unclear? Either he did or he didn't. The point of fact is he got hit. The article was about car vs a cage, it wasn't called hat or no hat.
I guess when Pat and I saw a rider get hit in Leesburg a few months ago, in which the rider was wearing a helmet, I might add, the newspaper probably reported it as the rider had no helmet as when the car hit him the rider's helmet flew off and rolled about 15 feet.

Sooner or later it will be time for payback for those that make their snide comments about bikers without or with helmets that get killed because of careless drivers. I have had to be restrained on more than one occasion because of asinine remarks made by clueless people. As you guys may or may not know, I work in a doctors office. Most of the nurses here have worked ER and Trauma. There was a conversation one day about helmet usage. I stayed out of it until one of the loudest drew me in. I challenged her to wear a helmet in her car. Just to be a smart ass, she took me up on it. So I brought in a full face race ready Shoei. I told her that she could put the windows down, but no air conditioning. Then she had to drive 10 miles in the car. This was last July. She came back 45 minutes later, hair soaked and sweating like a pig. I asked her how it was. She said uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I asked her why she didn't answer her phone while she was on her drive. She stated it never rang. When I showed her my phone and the 11 attempts to call her, she looked at hers and said "dam, I never heard it".

This is not to get into the helmeted VS non helmeted argument again. I live in a freedom of choice state, and I still wear 99% of the time. This was just to prove a point. And even though the woman would not admit in front of the others that the helmet was cumbersome, and very uncomfortable, she did admit to me in private that she would never rag on me again about my choice of helmet. And I wear a DOT approved $300.00 helmet. It is just that my helmet is not a full face helmet. I wasn't even trying to defend not wearing a helmet. My whole point here is that clueless people should just learn to shut their fucking mouths. I am at a boiling point about some many of our brethren being taken with impunity by clueless people.

And on this note, any word about the asshole who took out Louis??

Will miracles never cease. There was a news report on the local station about a motorcycle accident in Orlando. Never once was the issue of helmet usage brought up. However, and with my approval, they did mention that the "kids" involved were racing and weaving in and out of traffic. There were 3 bikes involved, one fatality and one of the bikes left the scene while the second rider stayed back with the other rider who was a fatality. They were, of course, on crotch rockets. In a sense, I may have given my approving nod prematurely as it was the news who reported the bikes were racing and there has been no official word from FHP as to the cause of the accident. Hell, now come to think about it, for all I know a cage could have come out in front of one of the bikes. Media bias? Maybe. Truth in reporting? Hmmm, now how often is that the case?

They were on I-4. How many moron tourists and such drive too slow because they don't know the area or worse, drive dangerously because they are looking for the exit to their favorite outlet mall?

Perhaps they were not racing. Perhaps they, as a group, passed slower traffic. But because they were on motorcycles, and there is more than one, it must have been a race.

We don't know yet. But it's amazing the assumptions that are made before an official report.

Eyewitnesses are not reliable. That is a proven fact. Especially where traffic is concerned or crowds are concerned.

That is why I was saying maybe I gave my approving nod slightly too early. The television news services in Orlando are about as reliable as the Orlando Mullet Wrapper.

The guy killed on I-4 over night was a Jet Blue Pilot. I'm sure that he was a bit more responsible than the media would like to make these "kids" out to be to sensationalize their stories.

Oh wait, then there were two different incidents. The one I was referring to took place at Kirkland out by Universal Studios. And as far as a Jet Blue pilot being responsible, maybe he was just as responsible as the NorthWest Airlines pilots that were drinking heavilly before they took off in their jet full of passengers a couple of years ago. However, I would like to think the fatality on I-4 was a responsible rider so I will not throw the JetBlue pilot under the bus.

Should we be picking on someone famous that can take it rather then these regular folks?

It's bad when people die. Well for people. The media love to profit from it apparently.

We got this guy down here in my neck of the woods who was just arrested for murdering a girl on the appalachian trail, and dumping her body in another wilderness area.

Now there's no fucking way this guy could have transported her body without passing within 200 feet of my house, so it's sort of interesting to me and disconcerning at the same time. She was killed 7 miles north of me, and the body found 7 miles south of me.

The media explosion is fucking insane down here. I have no clue what to believe because the sherrif can't be heard from the media screams of "the most prolific serial killer in history"

He keeps talking. So far there have "supposedly" been five cold case murders soved in Georgia, two in North Carolina, and three in Florida... but who knows for sure since the media is confusing the issue so badly that the "facts" spin around your head like a tornado. I can't stand to watch the news any more.
