Please tell us if you wear a helmet or not.
Do you wear a motorcycle helmet when riding?FX 02-24-2005, 03:41 PM Please tell us if you wear a helmet or not. poncho 02-24-2005, 04:25 PM I've only been in one state where it wasn't required ( Del. or Pa.) I used to always wear my full face flip up, now I usually wear one of the non-dot. cheechfxsti 02-24-2005, 04:32 PM I live on the Mass. R.I. border so it depends. Mass. yes, R.I. no. Passengers always wear a helmet, I don't stray from that rule. FX 02-24-2005, 04:52 PM My wife is an ER nurse. It's unlikely I'll stop wearing one. Springerick 02-25-2005, 04:47 PM I wear mine just about all the time it keeps my ball cap from flying off and the top of my head dosn't get sunburnt and in FLA that can happen most all the time. __________________________________________________ _______________________ :joint: :bottle:  :sign wtf: panheader 02-26-2005, 06:00 AM It's the law here that you have to wear one, but there are probably times that I wouldn't otherwise. cheechfxsti 02-26-2005, 08:06 PM I rode lidless at Laconia last year for 2 days and got a nasty sunburn, and windburn on the noggin! This year I will be a little more cautious  harleyfan 02-26-2005, 09:20 PM I live in Ohio which is not a mandatory helmet state. I've seen too many people killed who would have survived if they'd had a helmet on. Also, a lot of people say they don't wear a helmet around town, but wear one when traveling on the interstate. Think about it, around town you'll be going 35 or 40 mph. A helmet would help in the case of a crash at those speeds. On the interstate going 70 mph and tangling with a semi, a helmet isn't going to to much good. R K Dragon 02-28-2005, 11:33 AM Almost all the time! fastbiker 02-28-2005, 12:53 PM There should be a waiver, if you dont want to wear your helmet you should be required to carry a certain amount of medical coverage. So the rest of us dont have to subsidize your brain dead ass after you do a header into that tree..... Just like seatbelt laws I dont think its anyones business as long as we can take financial responsibility for ourselves. I always wear one. One time I didnt was riding in the desert around vegas for about an hour. Its a kewl feeling but I felt very nekkid without it. Freebird 03-01-2005, 05:38 PM I always wear a helmet. When I was 15 years old, I had my first motorcycle wreck when I managed to crash my Honda CL350 into the back of a Lincoln Town car at about 50 MPH. There is no way to know for sure but I'm convinced that the helmet saved my life. It's tempting to feel the wind blowing through my hair sometimes but I just won't take that chance. BUT...I STRONGLY feel that it should be a personal decision and NOT something that is regulated by the government. Freebird trbeemer 03-07-2005, 07:43 AM I always, always, always wear a helmet. Full coverage no less. I was rear-ended in December. As I was tumbling down the pavement head(helmet) hit pavement several times fairly hard. Just reaffirmed my view point that everybody should wear a helmet...full coverage no less..I just can't buy the arguments to the contrary. But let's not let this become another winless debate about that. FX 03-07-2005, 11:31 AM I always, always, always wear a helmet. Full coverage no less. I was rear-ended in December. Just don't jump anyone's ass if you disagree. trbeemer 03-07-2005, 11:37 AM Absolutly, the debate is not winable, we have to agree to disagree. But it's fine to post your opinion why you do or don't. Just don't jump anyone's ass if you disagree. Amen, bro! SportyGal 03-19-2005, 06:27 AM Hello every. I chose to not wear one, because at the present time, it is my choice. The state of South Carolina does not require you to wear one. I lost my real brother in 97, and they metioned in the paper he was not wearing one. The reflecter in the road is what killed him. slit the back of his neck and sliced his brain stem. If he had a helmet on, this would have still happened. had it not, he would have slammed into the curb and broke his neck, which would have made him most likely paralized. I know my brother would not have wanted to live that way. There is also scienctific proof, they can be a bad thing, just as well as a good thing. I think also it should stay PRO CHOICE. I ride,I decided. Thanks and Have a nice day!!! SportyGal FX 03-19-2005, 12:26 PM The Tax payers position: 1) Sign a waiver that if you crash, we don't have to pay your doctor bills and let can you die if you get a head injury. 2) Have 10 million dollars in insurance so we don't have to pay your bill if you get a head injury. I agree it's everyone's choice, but it's not the tax payers responsibility. If we don't have enough money or insurance, we die. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but the law is not about our life's, it's about the taxpayers money. Should they have to pay our bill? Isn't it arrogant to cite freedom of choice and then expect a free medical care from the tax payers? Where's their choice? jrbooe 03-19-2005, 03:10 PM You know, even if you wear a peanut helmet at least there is some sort of portection. Although it has been a while since I last rode I always wore a helmet. Unless I was on the beach. At 10 mph and on soft sand it is a lot harder to get hurt, also, you look like a dork to the women if you ride on the beach with a helmet. Even when I was playing around in the pasture I always wore a helmet. tat 03-19-2005, 06:33 PM I feel , let those who ride decide. My state does not require it. SD, so I don't. FX 03-19-2005, 06:54 PM I feel , let those who ride decide. My state does not require it. SD, so I don't. Part of that decision should be what you intend to do about the medical bill if you should need medical attention. There is no free lunch and you can't have it both ways. If you want the taxpayers to foot the bill, where is their choice? If this is about freedom of choice, where do they get to vote? I don't think we can win that vote. There is alot more to this issue. It's not just about your freedom. The very same people that claim freedom of choice want me to pay their medical bill. Where is my freedom of choice in that equation? JFN 03-24-2005, 07:59 PM I usually wear a helmet. My wife refuses to wear one. I'm sure my next wife will wear one. :) |
