Don't whine... do something.

We all know that there are a ton of things going wrong in this country right now, and it only appears to be getting worse instead of better.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has started a non-partisan organization, American Solutions for Winning the Future (http://www.americansolutions.com/) that in his words is "built around three goals: to defend America and our allies abroad and defeat our enemies, to strengthen and revitalize America’s core values, and to move government into the 21st Century."

I've known Newt Gingrich since 1988 when I became politically active for his re-election to the House of Representatives, and one thing I can tell you about this man is when he puts his mind to something he doesn't do it half heartedly. If anybody has the will, the resources and the energy to pull something like this off, Newt does.

I encourage everybody to follow the above link and look around. Read the petition and sign it if you're so inclined. Sign up and get involved if your so inclined. Tell all of your friends, family and coworkers if you're so inclined. We cannot effect change in this country by sitting around whining. Do something.

I'm placing this thread in the Open Topics area so even folks who don't normally visit our Politics forum will have a chance to see it, so if you have any political debates you want to get into over this, please take them to the Politics section and keep this thread nice and tidy so it can stay in the Open Topics area.

I agree with your sentiment about getting involved. (I'm not with you on the Newt thing though. Sorry. But I can respect you for attempting to make a difference and asking others to be politically active.) It's always been very frustrating to me that people complain and whine but don't take any action. And there are so many issues out there right now that really need to be addressed. If "we, the people" don't address them, they aren't going to be addressed. So sitting back and complaining isn't going to do a damn thing. Actually, being proactive and getting involved doesn't guarantee anything either, but at least you can say you tried.

I also agree w/ your sentiment about getting involved (although i don't agree w/ all the Newtisms).
