Hi All,
A 2005 BMW F650CS caught my eye and I started researching it to determine whether I want to test ride it (and possibly buy it). I noticed that it's significantly lighter than my current ride (V-Star 650) and makes 10 bhp more.
So, still being pretty new to motorcycles, would 10 bhp be a significant increase in power? Would I notice it that much?
Thanks for you comments.

Probably not that much IMHO.

If it's a lot lighter AND makes 10 hp more you will think it's a rocket !

So, Im to understand that BHP is Brake Horsepower which is the horsepower rated from the engine, not the rear wheels, with all of the accessories bolted on and running? Is that right? Did I leave anything out? LOL

You got it mostly right. About the only thing you left out is that BHP is measured at the maximum RPM the engine is designed for, which is usually not the optimal operating condition for an engine. Normal operating RPM is generally much less than redline RPM, and depending on the engine, the operating HP can be much more or much less than BHP.
BHP is important to understand when you're running race bikes that operate on the redline every time they're fired up, and it helps to guage the losses going from the crankshaft to the drivetrain to improve the overall performance, but it's pretty useless information when talking about a street bike unless you just like to show off at the dyno.
