883 to 1200 Upgrade

I am in the process of converting my '96 Sportster 883 to 1200. I have done a lot of reading and think I can crack the low to mid 80HP range. To do that I will increase the displacement to 1200 by boring the original 883 cylinders (want it to look as stock as I can). Using Wiseco domed pistons (10.5:1). Cams are Screaming Eagle (Stage 1) bolt-ins. Heads are 96 1200 dual plug heads that have been ported by Bartel. Leaving stock 1200 valves and springs. Decided to leave the stock CV carb to start, although I have a Mikuni in my sights. Already have Screaming Eagle pipes with slip-on mufflers and a Screaming Eagle high flow air intake. Finally have a Dyna 2000i ignition, but still trying to find a Dyna DC6-4 four tower coild that will use the stock HD mounting bracket.

If there are any wrench-heads out there that can give me the benefit of your experience, I would greatly appreciate it. Does anyone have any experience with the Yost power tube?

Look in my garage, I did a simular conversion. Being in the mid 80 hp, the guy who dynoed my bike said with a 2into1 and a 42mm mukuni it would be around 90 or better hp. More motor than carb and pipes but I ran out of cash, lol ya know? 80hp well let me tell ya thats 20 hp over stock 1200 and man 20hp not much in a car but on a 500 lbs. bike wow, it`s fun. Big twins look out. Ohh ya It`s like 47hp for a 883 thats a big jump to 80+.

Dang I hate to say this.... But my old 1200 Wing will nail ya in the straights... The corners are another story though... 800 Lbs plus my 250+ vs: 500 lbs... ya got me. LOL...

I know that from last year when some friends came up from Orlando and we rode The Dragon and The Skyway... one had a 1200 Sport, one had a 1400 and the other had a Road King...

One thing about those big Twins, When we were just doing some cruising up The Dragon and would take like a HairPin, those guys didn't have to downshift where my Wing likes 3000 RPM and up. Those V's will lug without any problems.

Hey Radar-

As you do the upgrade, be sure to leave any 883 emblems and markings in place. Ya just gotta have some fun with other folks needing to get caught by surprise. About 4 years ago, my brother and I were camping up and Mammoth Cave during the Harley Drags in Bowling Green, Ky. A guy in the campground had an 883 with tons of S&S pieces on the insides of his mill and tranny. Looked bone stock from the outside. But he had some timeslips in the low 10s. WooHoo! That's GOTTA be fun!
