oil in surge tank, V-Star 1100

What would cause a little bit of oil in surge tank? I recently had oil changed by dealer and suspect too much in crank case. I found it when searching source of oil leaking on engine. Thanks...cww

I'd place my money on the crankcase being over filled...
I can't say that I have ever heard of finding oil in the surge tank...but 99% of every 1100 V-Star that I have ever seen leak oil, was from it having to much oil in it...
Oil gets forced into a lot of places that it isn't supposed to collect in, and the result is a drop or more of oil, every time you lay it over on the kick stand...
Generally it will leak from the breather hose, if it has too much oil in it...

Hey guys first post here while my v-star is running should i be able to see any oil in the window??? getting ready for bike week in the morning

You will probably see oil...
but it will likely be more or less coating the window as it flows thru the engine.
It won't be a level oil reading as when the bike is not running and standing upright.
If you have fresh oil it will probably be harder to see...the darker the oil becomes from use the more readily it will show thru the window while the engine is running...
As a precaution against seepage and leaking...I recommend you keep the oil level at no more than 1/2 the window....as long as oil is showing in the window...it is full.
