Florida Motorcycle Helmet Law Scrutinized

The reports in the news are making the Florida no helmet required law out to be a very expensive in money terms as well as loss of life.

You decide...

Evaluation of the Florida Helmet Law Repeal

If you want to die, that's your business, but I do resent picking up the tab for the doctor bill. :/

You have a good point. Another example were the masses have to pay for the actions of a few. It's thier right to live free... it's our obligation to pay for it.

My 2 Cents,
Mike

Yeah, the minumum coverage is 20K. That 20K is spent before they pick you up off the street in most head injury cases.

I don't like limiting anyone's freedom. But if you want to exercise freedoms, you should take the responsibility up on your own for those actions. Most of the time it's laid on the tax payers though.

The helmet debate again, here’s how I feel about that: The Libertarian in me says as a freeman living in a free county I should be able to do what I wish as long as it doesn’t affect my neighbor and his rights, i.e. if I choose to not wear a helmet, then as a freeman I should have that right, however in the same line of thought, if I fall down go boom and crack the noggin then I also have no right to expect my neighbor to pay for any of my misfortune.

Under the American style Republic each of us hold sovereign power up to the point that it begins to infringe on your fellow citizen’s rights. Their rights are exactly equal to yours, not subordinate or superior. In a free society you have many choices, you can choose to succeed and you can choose to fail and everybody is exactly where their decisions and choices have placed them.

When you look at the past couple of weeks it is becoming painfully clear that we are losing this Republic and replacing it with a socialist welfare (nanny) state. Where the government will make many of our decisions for us. For example healthcare, or Universal Healthcare how long do you believe it will be before government, now picking up the tab for your healthcare will begin to tell you “well Jack if we’re paying .. you’re not eating Big Macs anymore” or “hey Jack if we’re paying you’re gonna wear a helmet, gloves, boots, a complete leather suit and, oh by the by you’ll be much safer with training wheels on the hog, did we mention that we’ll have a speed governor installed too .. 45 MPH is fast enough for the likes of you if you insist on being on 2-wheels.”

Liberty and Freedom cannot co-exist with the type of government, that government would like to become.

Here's Here. The socialization of America is coming and no one seems to care.

It's sad that there is not a qualified candidate to vote for in November on any ticket available to me.

Great post, vpats.

As usual the Evaluation uses bogus data. It also includes people injured while riding off road, not street bikes. In Hernando County last year I know is 5 kids that were killed or seriously injured riding off road. My middle son being one of them. I have good insurance so my 850,000 dollars medical bill cost me around 15,000 out of pocket. He was wearing a helmet at the time.
The DOT director is pushing for the repeal because She was involved in a motorcycle accident and beleives that the helmet saved her life. Therefore everybody should wear one. I'm sure they will manage to attach the repeal at the state level with receiving Federal hiway money.
I have been riding for 39 years and never go out with out my helmet but I beleive in individual rights

I have been riding for 45 years. I can't understand why bikers are against wearing a helmet. Mine has saved my life three times once when a deer jumped in front of me @ 60 mph ,once when I hit an oil slick and once when I was stoned by a group of young boys. Please don't break the the hearts of those who love you. John

There is a fine line between exercising a right and ignorance. Be safe out there!

The use of motorcycles has grown in the years, what is the number of bikes on the road and injured from riding. Most of the time it is not what you wear but how you ride. I myself do not like wearing a skid lid, but I do not try ot force that on anyone. If you ask me anyone who gets behind the wheel of a car or the handlebars of a bike should take safety classes to learn how and where to look for trouble on the road and each other on the road. Have you heard this before[ I did not see him ] just be safe out there and watch out for the other guy.

The plate should not be a problem, but other people should have plates denoting their faiths available to them.

Even if it were the only 'faith plate' to be had, would it mean one was saying that that FL is a christian state?

If I had a FL plate with Florida Tech on it, would I be saying all of FL was behind Florida Tech only?
