Good for the masses I am a very experienced rider and I am currently an aviation maintenance tech. I bought the book because I recently purchased my first, very used, Harley Evo. This book is put together in plain English. You don't have to be a Harley PHD to read it and accomplish some of the mods listed therein.
Actually I read it cover to cover as soon as I received it. I did have a specific problem I was looking at and found that particular chapter to be very helpful. It gave me all kinds of ideas of problems to look for and what to do about them. It lists part numbers of parts that they talk about in the book. I learned a lot about my Evo powered Electra Glide just looking through the book. It is greatly illustrated with lots and lots of color images.
I was not interested in the Sportster sections of the book. I don't own a Sportster so I thought having Sporty stuff in the book was a space waster. But I am sure the book with two different owners in mind sells twice as many books. I can live with that. It would appeal to Sportster riders as well as the big touring bike riders.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you are a new Evo owner then this book will guide you in the right direction. If you are an expert with Evo powered bikes then this book would refresh your thinking and give you new ideas. It sits right next to my Harley Shop manual in my shop. Reading, reading and more reading helps you enjoy the Harley Davidson journey. I've been a Harley owner for 90 days. And I can keep up my end of the conversation because of years of pre-purchase reading and post purchase research.
I didn't buy the book brand new. It was listed as used in good condition or something like that. The book arrived quickly and was really like new. I would call it having shelf wear.
Good Info in this book! I have the factory service manual for my bike and I still refer to this book because it explains things so well. I bought this book used for a fraction of the retail price and it looks almost brand new!
Excellent primer for the novice Woodring and Love offer a great resource for the novice or apprentice Harley wrench. Kind of like an appetizer plate: it has a little of everything but you don't get a full serving of anything. If one intends to really learn how to build a performance Harley this book is a great intro. However, such a student should consider this an overview, not a comprehensive treatise on the finer points of engine building. This book is definitely worth its price as a primer for more scholarly reads. Taken as such it is a great value.
Realy very elementary! I was hoping for a book that would have some neat ideas on making my Harley zippier. Of the 101 projects, stuff like changing the oil and adjusting the clutch just don't do it for me. But then I have taken Harleys apart and put them back together. The factory manual is your first must have book.
If You Can Only Buy One Harley Book....... If you can only afford one Harley Book, buy this one. It's the best of it's kind I've yet seen. Just one of the projects is worth the price. It' clear and well written with color pictures that are worth an additional thousand words. Reading this book will get you all fired up to spend some bucks and dig into that machine, so it's fun for the arm-chair mechanics, too. After a few projects you will feel comfortable with the mechanical challenges that a Harley can throw at you. If you do several, you will have a stong, well tended bike. It can save you a bundle if you want to hot-rod that EVO and you get bragging rights along with projects. I can't think of a better way to use twenty bucks.
