Jugs
- jugs
- cylindrical containers for motorcycle engine pistons capped by the heads
- steel or aluminum sleeve for an engine piston to slide in
Motorcycles and small engines usually have jugs for piston cylinders rather then a cylinder hole bored into a one piece block. Jugs can be air cooled or water cooled. Jugs are removable so they can be serviced easily.
A typical v-twin has two jugs and is air cooled. The front jug usually runs cooler than the rear jug. This is caused by the front jug partially blocking and heating air before it reaches the rear jug.
Water cooled jugs can dissipate heat more evenly which can be an advantage in traffic.
